Secondary Board High School at Bajrakabati Road, Cuttack, based on Mudaliar
Commission’s Report on “Reform in the System of Secondary Education in India”,
the then eminent educationists-cum - policy makers for education system in
Odisha like Prof Bama Charana Das, DPI, Shree Harihar Mishra, DDPI, Dr.
Shrinibas Sahu, Secretary and other senior officials of Board of Secondary
Education, Odisha conceived an idea to establish three model schools at Cuttack, Sambalpur & Berhampur respectively. To
materialise the very idea and to start with, construction of a school, named
“Secondary Board High School”, began in 1958.
Initially it was planned to introduce only three classes i.e. VI, VII & VIII and
accordingly, admission process began on June 09,1959. On demand by local guardians,
Class IX was introduced later the same year.
The school saw its first light on August 03, 1959 with 148 students including 31 girls,
under the guidance of Shree Chakradhar Mohanty, deputed by BSE as Special Officer and
nine teachers. And the strength of students rose up to 1100 by 1983, the twenty fifth
year of its inception.
The school building was surrounded by variety of trees like those of mango, guava, coconut,
sapeta, orange, lemon, etc. and two large ponds. The ambience was like a small forest inside the
city of Cuttack. It was being called Modern Satyabadi by the distinguished elites who used to
visit the school during those golden days. Concrete structures replaced the trees & ponds soon
after shifting of the main office of BSE into the same campus.
Though the first batch passed HSC Examination in 1962 with three years of study in the school, the
fully trained first batch passed out in 1965 with all six years of study in the school, one of the
students of this batch securing the First position in the State at the HSC Examination and since
then 29 students have secured different positions within top ten of the state merit list of HSC
examinations and overall success in HSC Examination has been above 95 % on an average with 100 %
many a time . All credits for such achievements mainly go to the Teachers for their committed
involvement, dedicated efforts, effective teaching and genuine love and affection.
